To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to serve as my formal recommendation for Calvin Gee for a position with the White House Innovations Fellowship.   Calvin has been interested in community and political activism, and I feel that he would be an excellent candidate for your esteemed program.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Calvin for several years, since he first started college.   He has volunteered to work with the UAW on Get-Out-the Vote campaigns and rallies.  He also has volunteered to work on various labor constituency organizations (e.g., Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, APIA Vote and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) on their campaigns and initiatives, throughout all of which he has demonstrated a maturity beyond his young age through his exceptional creativity, resourcefulness, strong work ethic, and dedication to the issues at hand.  Calvin has consistently demonstrated a strong willingness to see projects through to completion and a dedication to success.

I can distinctly recall one outstanding event from recent memory.  At the National Democratic Convention, Calvin volunteered, along with other driven young individuals, to work at the Convention.  What made him stand out, however, was his ability to take the initiative and coordinate projects with effective communication, really showcasing his leadership abilities.

Calvin’s activism, diligence, energy and sense of humor made working with him a pleasure.   If your program is seeking superior candidates with a record of achievement and community leadership, Calvin would be an excellent choice.  He has consistently demonstrated an ability to rise to any challenge that he must face.

To conclude, I would like to restate my strong recommendation for Calvin Gee.  If you have any further questions regarding Calvin’s ability or this recommendation, please do not hesitate to contact me.
